Ive had the opportunity to have a think about why I do my work, it is becoming more obvious that it is a need to express my thoughts, feelings and sometimes just a way to stop time for a while so I can reevaluate were im at.
I love to play with colour, line, and texture. I find even in my most sporadic work there is a good colour combination and attention to detail, witch is were the perfectionist in me comes out.
I would have to say my work is classed under the "symbolism abstract" tittle, as I use alot of little symbols and words to tell a story or a bunch of thoughts i might be thinking while im painting, for example "empty"
At art school one of my teachers said to me 'painting is like solving a problem, with every mark you make your creating a problem on the canvas, it is then your job to to fix the problem, and move on to the next one." I like this thought and I get very addicted to it in my paintings, as it takes my mind off the outside world, when im in this frame of mind my paintings tend to be made up of more patterns eg "stop.. its all good", "picket fence view" and "mind numbing"
As for my stick men as I like to call them. They go back to repetitive childhood nightmares, were id have all these long, stick like people surrounding me, which is why I guess they are what I use to express my feelings toward everyday issues or dramas going on in my life for example my "picket fence fairytale series" and "the concurred".
I spent two years at meadow bank tafe art school, but have always been vary close to a paintbrush, or pencil. I am originally from new Zealand, but have spent the past 6 years liven here in Sydney. Im often told my nz up bringing can be seen in my work.

Unique, and I can look at it time and time again and find something new every time.
